Multiply the bed area (sq ft) by the depth in feet (inches ÷ 12) to get cubic feet. Divide by 27 for cubic yards, or by the bag size (usually 2 or 3 cubic feet) for the number of bags. 100 sq ft at 3 inches = 25 cubic feet: 13 bags of 2 cu ft.
